Generative AI (GenAI) is rapidly transforming the media ecosystem and the world at large, reshaping our culture and conversations with the proliferation of altered media and misinformation. Far from immune to these changes, documentary filmmaking has been thrown into an existential moment by this new technology.

With this concern in mind, the Archival Producers Alliance set its first task as developing guidelines in the responsible use of this revolutionary technology.

We will publish our Guidelines for Use of Generative AI in Documentaries on this site in September 2024. We are currently soliciting endorsements of the Guidelines from across the industry.
